Proposed Civic Center closure
Jackie Wells presented gym usage data and asked the council to keep the gym open as the Civic Center closure approaches. Mayor Mickelson said no programs would be eliminated, meetings are underway with Young at Heart for Silver Sneakers, and if an alternative can be found there's no desire to close the facility.
Golf Course Conditions
Councilors toured the struggling golf course and reported on the turnaround: a dry winter, irrigation problems, and a lightning-struck pump that cut watering capacity 40% — but conditions are improving and the director has an action plan.
Veterans' memorial repair fundraiser
The damaged veterans' memorial is getting a community fundraising effort led by Parks and Recreation, with Councilor Thompson and his wife donating $500.
Rejected ice-time agreement with the hockey association
The council formally voted down the annual ice-use agreement — the hockey association never signed it, partly because they wanted a longer contract to lock in fees. Kids' hockey programs will need a new arrangement with the rec center.
Cemetery Lighting Project
Engineering got permission to bid the cemetery lighting project, moving toward better lighting at municipal cemeteries.
Youth Aquatics — SWAT Swim Club
The county's only USA Swimming-sanctioned competitive swim program highlighted state champions, a new diving program, a UW swim clinic and a Flaming Gorge Days fundraiser.

Adaptive Rodeo for residents with special needs
The second annual Wild West Wranglers Adaptive Rodeo happens June 5 — free to attend, open to all of Sweetwater County, and looking for volunteers and business donors.
Century West Park splash pad rebid
The only bid for the splash pad came in about $700,000 over the grant award, so Parks & Rec will rebid with a tighter scope. The director owned up to rushing the original bid after a two-week grant deadline and to tearing down the old pool early.
Community Fine Arts Center board dissolution
An MOU with the county and school district formally dissolves a board that hasn't operated in ten years — the Fine Arts Center itself stays open under library management.
URA food ban at the Broadway Theater
The Actor's Mission can no longer serve free meals at its Broadway shows, threatening its 'feed the body, nourish the mind' mission and grant funding. No council vote happened, but both boards agreed to meet this week to negotiate a fix.
July 4th Fireworks 2026
The annual fireworks contract with Fireworks West was renewed at $25,000 — same as last year. Parks is fundraising to expand the show for the nation's 250th anniversary.
Adoption of New Official City Flag
The council adopted a student-designed city flag, but the vote followed a heated clash over a viral video mocking the design. The mayor and several councilors apologized to the young designer and urged the community to support youth civic participation.
Blairtown Park Playground Replacement Grant
The city accepted a $69,529 Wyoming Community Foundation grant to replace the Blairtown Park playground — aimed at youth, but too small to help refurbish the town's pools.
