Civic Center closure

A civil engineer and sister of former Public Works Director Glenn Sugano, she presented data from the Berry Dunn and FEA reports arguing the Civic Center is not in disrepair, the fire sprinkler system passed inspection, and the city came in $1.4 million under budget — arguing two facilities meet the national benchmark for the population.

A Silver Sneakers participant who lives in North Rock Springs, she asked the council to rescind the closure resolution so fundraising and donations can actually happen, noting the Civic Center's easy one-level access and that people won't exercise if it closes.

She questioned why the council doesn't just close the Civic Center now instead of waiting until after the election, calling the timing suspicious; the mayor explained the closure date was set a year and a half ago at the community's request.
